Don't take my word for it. Hear what students, parents of students, my sons, and more have to say!

Karl ~ Attorney, professional actor, and our oldest son:
"What little time I spent in public school was easy to remember. I finished most of my school work quickly, had difficulty being engaged due to a lack of challenge in the classroom and spent most of my time playing computer games or making my own board games. The home-school education my mother provided was like stepping out of the dark into the light. Learning transformed from checking boxes to actually loving what I was doing, and it instilled a lifelong passion for learning and want to better myself. Schooling became about learning the things I wanted to learn, making learning the things that had failed to excite me easier to manage. Through this, I had a well rounded, if non traditional education that gave me a skill set that prepared me for every day life as well as college and beyond. I am currently a law student, and that was after finding success as a professional, union stage and screen actor. Many people ask me how such achievements were possible and I always directly refer to the education provided by my mom. Her instruction teaches everything you could learn from a public school, and adds in confidence boosts, a passion for learning and the belief that you can be whatever you want to be. Every bit of my success starts with an education that challenged me without intimidating me, that was tailored to my interests and helped me feel ready to pursue higher education, and I am forever grateful for the effort my mom put into it, and awed at how she worked full time while doing it!"

Cody ~ Emergency medicine attending doctor, teaching fellow, medical Master's candidate, and our middle son:
"The strength and impact of my primary education on the trajectory and success of my continuing education and career cannot be overstated. I was given tools and skills that have benefited me throughout my life. More specifically, the focused and differentiated education that I received allowed me to explore the depths of topics normally not covered in traditional public education. However, I was also thoroughly educated in all core topics such that I was able to excel in all standardized testing including college entrance exams. I credit the quality of the education as the primary driver of my success as a medical student and now Emergency Medicine resident. I was taught critical thinking skills, self-directed thought, and given the motivation to pursue lifelong learning, a requisite for a career in medicine. I was taught how to conduct primary research, gather information, and apply these abilities in the development of large scale projects. I can say with absolute certainty that I owe my present success to my education, and I am grateful that I didn't have a rougher road through an already notably difficult career path as a result. "

Erik ~ Professional actor, musician, composer, Master's student in counseling psychology, and our youngest son:
"As a part of her vast skill set, my mom is an expert in personalized education. The differentiation of her curriculum and instruction varied greatly even in the teaching of her own sons. As the youngest member of my family, I never felt like I was simply walking in the academic footsteps of my brothers in being home-schooled while growing up. I was always taught with an approach that was not only specifically tailored to my needs, but more importantly one that helped to cultivate my passions in learning. From Egyptology to music performance, the pursuit of my academic passions didn’t feel like a typical classroom, it felt more like a playground. Being a consistent and close witness to my mom’s public and graduate school classrooms for over twenty years, I am always reminded of my childhood education. As an instructor, and as a compassionate humanitarian, she treats every student as though they are her own family. She tailors education to each and every one of their needs, giving them an earnest pride in academic enlightenment. Similarly, the greatest gift I received through home-schooling continues to be an earnest pride and passion in education and seeking new information every day. While being home-schooled, I did not equate learning a diverse multitude of topics as a systemic requisite, but as a treasured opportunity to better understand the world, and to better understand myself. The resulting desire to be a lifelong learner has sustained and flourished in my adulthood. I see education not as an instruction of what path I must follow, but as an opportunity to create my own."
Testimonials/Reviews: Testimonials
"I teach Art to students in grades K-9 in a rural public school, in a tiny classroom that was probably never intended to be an art room.
Dr. Brevik has been my professor, and my personal mentor, for over two years. Of all of the professors I've met during my college classes and throughout my teacher education program, she has been the wisest, most caring, empathetic, and passionate professor from whom I have ever had the privilege of learning. She is one of the smartest people I have ever met, and she not only walks the talk, but she understands and teaches it. She has been in the trenches at every level through almost all conceivable circumstances. She knows what teachers and administrators are faced with and experience daily.
I will miss her dreadfully as a professor.
As a mentor, I have been blessed to have her by my side.
Dr. Brevik has gone above and beyond in helping to keep my feet on the ground, instilling confidence in my abilities. While facing difficulties such as school funding cuts, a definite lack of resources, and insufficient time to create and implement the kind of instruction I want to deliver, Dr. Brevik has been there for me all along.
Dr. Brevik was not originally designated as my mentor, but when I reached out and needed help, she became one to me. Being a mentor for me is not something for which has been paid, but she has taken my calls day and night. She has gifted me with countless hours of her time, helping me to come up with creative ideas to improve my instruction and my abilities as an art teacher. She answers my emails promptly, and always has something supportive to say while helping me work through problems. She has gone out of her way to help design standards-based curricula that I can utilize to collaborate with teachers. These lessons and units are enacted to enhance continuity from conventional classrooms to art rooms, benefiting all students, teachers, and colleagues involved.
I am so lucky to have met Dr Brevik.
I count my blessings every day, and I am so grateful to have her by my side as I continue to grow as an aspiring art teacher, striving for greatness!"

"Dr. Brevik. The Legend."
"These are words that I will never forget that came from a quiet man with a big smile as he entered one of Dr Brevik's classes, his hand outstretched, to observe. The man came from the CO Dept of Education, and he had asked if he could drive down and observe her "in the trenches" because he was intrigued by her widespread reputation, her remarkable level of success with students, and her forward-thinking manner of instruction.
I was a colleague of Dr. Brevik's for over 15 years. I was accustomed to hearing wonderful things about her from children, adults, colleagues, and so many others. It wasn't unusual for those of us who worked with Dr. Brevik to take part of a day off and watch her teach. She always welcomed us into the classroom, and always asked for feedback afterward! It was a gift to be allowed into her classes, and see how she could relate to students academically and personally, keep instruction moving, fun, and relevant, and just watch faces of all ages light up. Sometimes I think she taught us as much as she taught her students, though I don't know if she will ever realize how much of a positive impact she had!
I have nothing but the highest regard for the way Dr. Brevik can connect with students and people on so many levels, engender confidence and a love for learning, and for the way she has humbly affected her students and our communities more than she will ever know. She was a colleague, mentor and friend, a leader in our building, among many staffs, and at the administrative level as well. She was always there if we had a question, needed an idea, or just needed to vent. She has an incredibly calming effect, and just has a way of making you feel better, even when things are most stressful.
The day Dr. Brevik retired from public school teaching was a sad day for all of us, and for the community. She is a gift to those she continues to teach, she provides such an excellent example of what an educator should be, and she is exactly what we need to be a leader in the field, then and now.
I know the legend of Dr. Brevik will continue, and I am so incredibly grateful to have had been able to get to know and work with her!"

"I had the privilege of working with Dr. Brevik as both a classroom assistant and substitute teacher for her third grade class. I was in awe of the level of respect and trust all of her students had for her. They were willing, encouraged, and empowered to actively engage in their own learning. I have no doubt this was caused by Dr. Brevik’s leadership based in individualised respect, care, and attention given to each student. When I filled in for her in the classroom on two separate occasions, she left lesson plans created with such detailed, clear instruction that they were easy to understand and implement seamlessly. The curricula she created for her own classroom took all of the intimidation and uncertainty out of teaching the material. It was enjoyable and educational for both myself and the students!"

"L. Brevik, PhD.,
A most fantastic teacher… an awesome mom… a fabulous human being… a terrific doctor of education… a great leader…"
"These are all accolades that I think of when I think about Doctor Lori Brevik. What a woman!
My daughter has been truly blessed to find herself in Dr. B’s 3rd grade classroom this year. At the beginning of the school year, she was nervous and hesitant; having not had any interaction with the only female teacher in school who didn’t go by “Mrs./Miss/Ms.” But, by the end of the first day, she knew she was in the right place!
Dr. Brevik’s enthusiasm is contagious – whether you are a child or adult, she is the type of person you hope to run into when you are feeling a little low, or need encouragement.
Does she even sleep?! It doesn’t seem like she does, because she always appears to be on the GO! Yet, she has all the time in the world for those she is interacting with at that moment. She may be a 3rd grade teacher, but she also frequently teaches up at the University (UCCS), and she still finds the time to be a supportive mom to three young men! How is this possible? I wanna be just like Dr. B when I grow up!
Dr. Brevik, we have been truly fortunate to get to know you this year; dancing with you as we learn Square Dancing, enjoying a variety of tastes from around the world, laughing at your amusing weekly emails and jokes. The list is endless! Every kiddo who has been lucky to have you be their teacher over the years is surely a better person for it. Thank you for all you do to make us better people, enriched by your guidance, love, and support.
Hugs to you, Lady"

"Over the past few decades I have enjoyed working with you. You have been an awesome co-worker, mentor, teacher, and friend. For almost 20 years you have brought me your class to come to the art room with a positive attitude. Thank you for the support of the visual arts. You have been a dedicated teacher to my child. Thank you for your energy not only in helping him transition from Montessori School to public school, but also for helping him to grow into a future engineer. You have taken the time to help me in my growth as an educator. Thank you for answering my questions about teaching and educational knowledge. You have been a solid friend that I can count on to share successes and worries. Thank you for being a wonderful friend."
